In December 2009, our supporters voted GSF to one of the top 100 nonprofits of more than 500,000 organizations in the first round of the $5M Chase Community Giving campaign on Facebook. This is incredible and another humbling example of how vibrant the SMA community is and how collectively we can accomplish anything as one, united, motivated voice.
For being voted in the top 100 we received a $25,000 grant from Chase and we advanced to the final round with a chance to win up to $1 Million for SMA awareness and research programs.
Within days of receiving the $25,000 grant, we directed 100% of that amount to Dr. Hans Keirstead at UC Irvine. The funding is already being used in the lab to accelerate that promising program to human clinical trials as safely and efficiently as possible.
